the book is here! (+ a giveaway)

Yes yes, the book is here! You can order Lunch Bags! 25 Handmade Sacks & Wraps to Sew Today from your favorite online retailer today. It should also be available in a store near you soon.

I'm of the mind that the only way to properly celebrate a Book Release is with an Ice Cream Social.  I was having a tricky time figuring out logistics for one, but I need not have worried my sweaty little head, for last night I was surprised with a complete mini ice cream party.   Because nothing says, "Way to go on getting that lunch bag pattern included in a book all about lunch bag patterns!" than a melted ice cream sundae on a hot, muggy night.

From C&T Publishing:
"Today's hottest designers share their sewing savvy with 25 projects, from a simple sandwich wrap to a sophisticated shoulder bag. Why shouldn't your lunch bag match your personal wardrobe and eco-conscious lifestyle?"

Would you like to own an autographed copy?  Sweet pea, you've come to exactly the right place-- I'm giving one away!  No sewing machine?  Just plain lazy?  Nothing to be ashamed of because I'm also giving away one of the Simple Lunch Bags featured in the book!

Leave a comment on this post by 8pm est on Thursday, August 12 and tell me about the scrumptious picnic lunch you would pack in one of these totes.

Be sure to let me know if you'd like the book or a lunch bag.  I'll announce the winners right here next Friday.  Family, friends & likeable strangers are all welcome to participate.  Don't be shy.  Be a winner.

  1. Congratulations! This is fantastic news. I posted in on my FB page for you (hope that's ok).

My idea of a perfect picnic lunch wrapped in a cool lunch bag would be a peanut butter, sprouts and cucumber sandwich, strawberries on the side and iced tea. Oh, maybe a homemade cowboy cookie tucked in there, too.

Great way to celebrate! Well done.

Congrats and ditto on posting this on FB.

My perfect picnic lunch...homemade orzo salad (you know what I'm talking about), and...who am I kidding I'll just have the salad and definitely some cowboy cookies and a icy cold diet cola.

    XOXO sister.

  10. A sandwich made from a thick slice of the garden fresh tomato that is sitting on my counter; with fresh basil leaves and a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese drizzled with olive oil. That’s what I would pack. Now I don’t have a clue what a cowboy cookie is, but I bet it would be the prefect ending to any lunch packed in such a beautiful bag; could the recipe be included? :)

Perfect picnic lunch would be bread and cheese for me. A baguette roll and some brie along with some Pellegrino and a wedge of lime or lemon. I'm a cheese lover.

I think I'd like my picnic lunch to include turkey with avocado on wheat toast, a bunch of grapes and a ginger ale to drink. Yummy!

  15. This is amazing! I have bought fabric to make my own snack bags (trying to ditch the plastic), and I'm kinda into new lunch bags. I would pack a fantastic work lunch in this. But in a fantasy world, I would pack lots of different cheeses and crackers and fruit spreads, and bring a fantastic bottle of wine for an amazing picnic. Mmm. cwkessler at gmail dot com.

  16. I've been very curious about this book. Thank you for this contest!

With my ethnic background, I would pack onigiris or rice balls with salty seasoning sprinkled, rolled eggs, thinly sliced cucumber pickles Japanese style, veges such as lightly boiled broccoli, small grape tomatoes, and some orange slices. Cold bailey tea can't be missed!

  17. My ideal lunch would include: Turkey on whole wheat, sweet gherkins, scallions, nectarine & grapes! Chocolate mint bar snack! YUM!

  18. Ooh, how exciting! I'm so proud of you!

For my picnic, I'd probably pack the same thing I did for my and Dave's anniversary this year - Cured meat, brie, crackers, grapes, chocolate chip cookies, and a bottle of Riesling we snuck into Congress Park in Saratoga. Add an inpromptu dance party and we're in business!

Congrats again on your awesome accomplishment!

  19. Congrats! I ordered the book even though I don't sew!

I would pack a chocolate feast! Chocolate and fresh fruit! A great combination! And, of course, a Diet Coke!

  20. Christine! You are too much!! A big, happy, congratulations to you and all your awesome efforts! You make everybody else, well...mainly me, look completely lazy.

However I can always pull it into gear when it comes to a picnic (as long as a good wine is involved). My default picnic sandwich is, of course, my mother's to-die-for Chicken Salad (complete with celery, apples, grapes, and pecans). Although, on this specific day I may go for the Smoking Granny Sandwich (Cinnamon-Raisin bread, cream cheese, smoked turkey, Granny Smith apple, and alfalfa sprouts), a juicy peach, and of course something completely salty (chips, pretzels, pistachios...mmm) for the boy, all topped off with a delicious bottle of wine (am I repeating myself?). A bag like this would surely come in handy when eating my packed lunches all alone in my car in the middle of nowhere *tear*...just another typical day at work (of course I forgot to mention the mountains and pleasant scenery). Happy sewing!
