the big time

The next few weeks are big time. We're moving to a new apartment! Squee! The move coincides with a season of very busy work schedules for both of us and we'll also be away for part of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. It's all a bit overwhelming, to be honest, but it's nice to know that in just a few weeks I'll be unwinding on our new luscious back deck with a glass of chilled wine in my hands. It is with that thought that I will push through moving everything we own down three flights of stairs in the early summer heat.

Interestingly, many of the boxes we've packed so far have been filled with either glass jars or books. I have serious collections of both. Moving always makes me rethink my ever-expanding personal library.

When the posting gets even lighter than it has been, just know that I am scurrying around like a madwoman and will be back soon :)

indy in photos

Layover. Trippy walkway complete with New Age music.
A trippy light show during my layover in Detroit.

As you know, I was in Indianapolis for most of last week on business. Here are a few photos I snuck when I wasn't soaking up the knowledge at The Center on Philanthropy. (If you are in the charitable giving field and are looking for some training, this place is absolutely worth your time. Email me for details.)

Canal run.
On the advice of a friend who went to college in Indianapolis, I went running on the gorgeous canal path that winds through the city. It really was one of the nicest running spots I've been to. You go past museums, historical sites, fountains and...

I love a good pair of unexpected wooly mammoths.
Wooly mammoths! It's perhaps a little known fact, but I have a major affinity for wooly mammoths and mastadons. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to come across these two guys on my run.

War memorial from last night's fro-yo walk.

And an uneventful (translation: good) flight home. I've had the good fortune to have traveled on business a bit over the past few years and I almost always really enjoy it. It's nice to get a quick break from your routine and connect with other people doing good work in their communities. These trainings and conferences reinvigorate me with new ideas and strategies and reaffirm how happy I am to be in this business... the business of connecting good people to a cause that I am passionate about. And occasionally, you also spot a few wooly mammoths. It's a good deal.

indianapolis (& why whole foods made a mistake)

The shuttle company's vans were all out on the road... So they drove us to our hotels in a limo.

I'm in Indianapolis this week for work, soaking up the knowledge and expertise at a premier philanthropy conference. I had gotten my hopes up because I heard about this zip line that you could take throughout downtown Indy. (Video!) You could zip line through the city. WHAT?! Apparently, though, that was only available during the Superbowl season. I am incredibly disappointed. If you have any tips of things to check out during my free time in Indianapolis, leave them for me in the comments, on FB or on Twitter

So far, I've managed to take an accidental hour and forty five minute walk around the IUPUI campus and downtown Indy and go for a run at precisely the moment it started raining. Sooo, I need a little guidance. I will say that Indianapolis seems like a pretty sweet city. Just need a few suggestions, if you have them.

Oh, and hey, I wrote this Soapbox piece for All Over Albany on why I think the Colonie Center mall location for the new Whole Foods sucks. Check it out, if you'd like. Join in the controversy that I seem to have struck and, if so inclined, name call a little in the comments. (Just kidding, don't do that. Sure is getting saucy over there though! Either way, I will just read what you've said and giggle while eating the delicious burrito I picked up on the way back from my run in the rain. Gracias!)
